Our Safeguarding Vision
Hartshorne CE Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We are fully committed to ensuring that consistent effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support families, children and staff at school. All concerns are passed through the member of staff who is trained as a "Designated Safeguard Lead or DSL" in school in compliance with the "sharing of information" guidance.
The DSL at school are Mrs Sarah Layhe-Humphreys and Mrs Francesca Mellor (Co-Headteachers)
The deputy DSL at school is Mrs Clough (School Business Officer)
Cause for Concern
All staff are asked to report any cause for concern to the Designated Safeguarding Lead and to record it using an online system 'MyConcerns'. Any concerns will be shared with parents/carers as early as possible where appropriate, as more often than not there are extremely reasonable explanations for the concern. Concerns may range from children being visibly upset to persistent lateness to children "disclosing" concerns.
Staff Safeguarding Guidance and Training informs all of the following:
- Procedures to safeguard children and young people.
- Awareness-raising about abuse in order to overcome barriers to children and young people reporting their concerns.
- Helping adults recognise the signs and indicators that might give rise to concern.
- How to respond to concerns about abuse of children and young people.
- How to respond to children and young people making an allegation of abuse.
- Ways in which adults can raise concerns about unacceptable behaviour by other adults.
Our Safeguarding and Child Protection policy can be found on the school website or a hard copy is available from school; please contact the school office.
Also available on this site is parental and pupil guidance with regards to safer internet use; please make use of the links on the Keeping Children Safe page.
Early Help
There may be times when your child, you and your family require some advice and support. At Hartshorne CE Primary School we will do everything we can to support you.
Our staff are on the playground every morning and afternoon if you need a chat. They are available to meet and greet children who need extra support, from the school gate.
We offer Positive Play one to one support sessions for children with trained staff to give them a chance to discuss any anxieties. We also offer a "buddy" system where a child can be buddied with another child to support them in class or at playtime. All sessions are carried out with parental involvement and permission.
We have an experienced SENCO who works with children with additional needs and their families.
Early Help is a system to ensure that you get the right help and support needed. If the support we can offer is not suitable we can refer you to Early Help from Pingle Academy. This will always be with your permission. There is a strong relationship with our Family Support Worker who would visit you in your home, advise you of other agencies that can support you and your family and also visit your child / children in school to complete direct work.

Domestic Abuse
This school will receive from Derbyshire Police a notification of every incident that has been reported to them or known to them of domestic abuse where a child is known to be living in the household.
This is a Derbyshire Police initiative working with Derbyshire County Council Chilrens Services. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and this is to help schools with their responses to domestic abuse by helping them support children and their families exposed to or involved in domestic abuse.
This may mean talking to pupils about their experiences, raising awareness through classroom discussion and schools activities, helping victims and families by providing to them signposting information.
This school is committed to protecting children and young people and working with partners to stop domestic abuse.
