Hartshorne CE Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We are fully committed to ensuring that consistent effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support families, children and staff at school. All concerns are passed through the member of staff who is trained as a “Designated Safeguard Lead or DSL” in school in compliance with the “sharing of information” guidance.
The DSL at school is Mrs Sarah Layhe-Humphreys (Headteacher)
The deputy DSL at school is Mrs Mindham (Assistant Headteacher) and Mrs Clough (School Business Officer)
Cause for Concern
All staff are asked to report any causes for concern to the Designated Safeguard Lead using a written pro-forma which is available in the staff room. Any concerns will be shared with parents/carers as early as possible where appropriate, as more often than not there are extremely reasonable explanations for the concern. Concerns may range from children being visibly upset to persistent lateness to children “disclosing” concerns.

Holidays in Term Time
In September 2013 the Education (Pupil Registration) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2013 came into force. These regulations make it clear that Headteachers should not grant approval for any leave of absence during term-time, including holidays, unless there are exceptional circumstances.
Any requests for leave of absence should be on an official school absence request form (please see below or ask for a copy from the school office) and handed into the school office for consideration prior to any holiday/leave arrangements being made.
You may be issued with a Penalty Notice should leave be taken which is not authorised.
The advice to headteachers to not authorise any leave of absence during term-time unless there are exceptional circumstances has not changed despite the recent appeal and national and local press coverage.
